Kohn convincingly argues that the practice of assigning homework to school-aged children is a practice in need of examination. He is engaged in nothing less than an ideological struggle over the direction of American education. Although the thrust of Kohn's argument is attacking the practice of assigning homework, he is really challenging the major movements in American education today. As in the past, he is critical of educational policies that have their roots in behavioral research and theory. In this book, Alfie Kohn continues his role as a provocateur and "progressive" challenger to established authority, aiming his focus this time on the benefits and problems with homework in America today. Reviews the book, The Homework Myth: Why Our Kids Get Too Much of a Bad Thing by Alfie Kohn (see record 2006-10703-000 ).
